High School Internships at JSSA
JSSA’s high school internship program introduces students to the vital work of human services in a nonprofit
setting. Interns gain valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a multidisciplinary agency serving
people across the lifespan.
As an approved Student Service-Learning (SSL) site, students can earn SSL hours toward their high school graduation requirements.
Location Requirement
JSSA serves the National Capital Region, including parts of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. To be eligible for this internship, candidates must be able to live and work in this region and have the ability to commute to JSSA locations as required.
Internship Overview and Time Commitment
- Flexible Scheduling: Internships are designed to accommodate student schedules. To ensure a
meaningful experience, students are encouraged to commit 12-16 hours per week. - Eligibility: Open to all local high school students. JSSA has welcomed interns from public and private
schools across the National Capital Region (including parts of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and
Northern Virginia). - Design Your Own Path: This internship offers a unique “choose your own adventure” experience.
Interns have the flexibility to collaborate with different departments based on their interests and goals.
Students who thrive in JSSA’s internship program are typically independent, willing to take initiative, and eager to engage with various members of the JSSA team. Those who are responsible, reliable, and comfortable working with minimal structure tend to have the most meaningful and enriching experiences.
