At JSSA, we believe that as you age, it’s more important than ever to stay active and connected to your community. We’re here to help you do just that. In partnership with local community organizations, we offer many opportunities for you to meet your neighbors, form fulfilling relationships, learn, and grow.

We are proud to provide the following programs to help you stay social as you age:

Coming of Age (COA) in MD

We work with our partners at Bender JCC of Greater Washington and the Jewish Council for the Aging to offer regular social and educational engagements for Montgomery County residents age 60+. There is no membership fee to join this community, and neighbors of all faiths and ethnicities are welcome. Each excursion or activity is carefully planned to ensure that mobility and transportation concerns do not prevent neighbors from joining.

The Himmelfarb Mobile University (HMU)

Services are supported by the Himmelfarb Fund for Senior Independence and Well-being.

HMU is an award-winning educational program created in 1989 to bring learning opportunities to seniors. To this day, we bring interesting classes and lectures to residents of retirement and assisted living facilities and nursing homes. All classes are taught by passionate volunteers and cover topics as wide-ranging as:

  • Art and architecture
  • Geography
  • History
  • Economics
  • Pop culture and current events
