JSSA’s Impact in Unprecedented Times

Over the past year, the pandemic and subsequent economic upheaval have thrown into crisis the lives of many residents of our region. They are older adults who are socially isolated, workers who have found themselves furloughed or unemployed, adolescents struggling to adapt to the new normal, and those who have been impacted by the virus itself, including a disproportionate number of people of color. They are parents, grandparents, friends, colleagues, students, and neighbors. They are our clients, our staff, and their families.

JSSA has mobilized to address these challenges, expanding our work in every program area and shifting many services remotely to provide ongoing care with grace and compassion.

Continuity of Care

JSSA has continued to provide uninterrupted services to our neighbors in need throughout the pandemic. Our diverse mental health staff continues to provide telehealth support to existing and new clients, while our Hospice and Premier Homecare staff continue to provide in-person care to the most vulnerable populations in our community.

Meeting Urgent Needs

To help weather the financial hardships many of our neighbors are experiencing, JSSA partnered with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington to provide financial assistance to the community for such essentials as housing, utilities, food, and medical expenses. We also quickly mobilized to support adults with disabilities who were furloughed or laid off from jobs they secured through our Employment Services program.

Improving Community Access to Care: New Support Line

To help our neighbors more easily navigate and access support services during the pandemic, JSSA, in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and a network of human service organizations, launched the 703-J-CARING Community Support Line shortly after the pandemic began. The support line serves residents throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia seeking information about health and wellness, career services, emergency assistance, early childhood, and adult services.

Your Impact During Unprecedented Times

Against the backdrop of the coronavirus and an economic recession, your ongoing support is helping individuals and families navigate life’s consequential moments. Generous donations from individuals and collaborations with corporate, foundation, government and community partners have allowed us to not only continue but expand our services to meet the increasing community needs through Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.
