In the Jewish tradition, we light a yahrzeit Candle on the anniversary of a loved one’s death.  As a people, we collectively remember those who perished in the Holocaust. Please help honor the six million by lighting a candle.  It is our hope that the observance of Yom HaShoah remains an annual event in your home and in your community that includes lighting of this Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle.  On the 27th day of Nissan, as this practice continues through the generations, we can be assured that this tragic period will never be forgotten, even after the survivors and witnesses are no longer here to share their experiences.

Tied to yahrzeit observance, it is customary to give tzedakah or charity to honor the departed.  The JCRC and the Seaboard Region of the FJMC directs 100% of your tzedakah to the Jewish Social Service Agency’s (JSSA) Holocaust Survivors Program.  With your support, JSSA is able to provide for the basic needs of more than 400 aging and vulnerable Holocaust Survivors in the metropolitan DC area, most of whom live at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

We are all stronger together. Thank you for being part of the team.
