A Journey for Justice

Join JSSA for a special event in support of our Holocaust Survivor program featuring Akin Gump Partner, Raphael "Rafi" Prober and Holocaust survivor Rosette Goldstein who will discuss their epic quest for justice.

A Journey for Justice

Thursday, May 18 |6:30-8:30 PM

Hosted by: Heather and Steven Freidkin at their Bethesda home.

Learn about the journey for justice waged by Akin Gump Partner Rafi Prober against France’s national rail company, SNCF, for deporting 76,000 Jews and thousands of others toward the concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Rafi led Akin Gump’s pro bono case representing 650 Holocaust survivors and family members that involved legal, legislative, communications, and diplomatic efforts that led to the French government’s historical agreement acknowledging the role of SNCF. The agreement also included a $60 million settlement between the U.S. and France, benefiting thousands of survivors.

Joining Rafi to share her moving personal story is Rosette Goldstein, a survivor Akin Gump represented in this case. As a leading voice for the survivors in the case against SNCF, Rosette will recount how she survived the Holocaust as a hidden child in France. She will also talk about her father, who was deported toward his eventual death on an SNCF train.

JSSA’s Holocaust Survivor program cares for more than 350 Holocaust survivors in our area and provides comprehensive care and support services that ensure their health, well-being, and dignity.  JSSA’s mission is to honor their legacies and fight for justice for those who suffered unthinkable atrocities during the Holocaust.
