Ethics Behind Duty to Warn

This workshop will discuss the ethics behind the duty to warn as it relates to confidentiality and mandated reporting. Many clinicians are aware of the importance of the duty to warn and the need to report, yet many do no report. It is imperative to understand the parameters and sanctions related to duty to warn. This workshop will explore the history of the duty to warn (landmark cases), confidentiality, organizational culture and ethics. Discussion will focus on: confidentiality dilemmas, mandated reporting, discrepancies in reporting , code of ethics and ethical framework model. This is an interactive workshop where cases vignettes will be presented, and participants will work in a group setting to further maximize their understanding of the concepts presented.
