POSTPONED – Combining TMS with Psychotherapy for Treating Depression

March 17 @ 9:00 am - 12:15 pm

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a safe, non-invasive type of brain stimulation, was approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression in 2008, and is now clinically available for the treatment of adults who have not been helped by antidepressant medications. This talk will address the potential of combining psychotherapy with TMS for the treatment of depression, taking advantage of potential synergies between the two non-pharmacological approaches. 3 NIMH scientists will present on the following topics:

 Basics of Brain Stimulation Devices – what are they and how do they work – Zhi-De Deng, PhD, MHS

 Combining psychotherapy with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for treatment of Depression – Bruce Luber, PhD

 Next Generation Seizure Therapies for treating depression – Sarah Hollingsworth Lisanby, MD
