Connecting with Seniors in the Community Connecting with Seniors in the Community

JSSA offers many opportunities for you to share your special skills and talents to help seniors engage their minds and to socially connect with their neighbors in retirement communities, assisted living facilities or nursing homes. We encourage you to share your passions with them - whether through teaching a class, playing an instrument or singing, facilitating discussions, leading a spiritual service or simply paying a friendly visit.  It's a mutually rewarding experience!

Himmelfarb Mobile University
Volunteers in our Himmelfarb Mobile University help seniors stay healthy by engaging their minds in learning, which many in the geriatrics field recommend. JSSA’s volunteers share their experiences, interests and talents (either through lectures, workshops or performances) with residents of retirement communities and nursing homes.

Jewish Chaplaincy Services
JSSA’s JCS volunteers offer spiritual, religious and personal connection to vulnerable Jewish seniors living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities not under Jewish auspices. Volunteers offer Jewish resources and a variety of programs including brief services, discussion groups, art projects, singing programs and one-on-one visits with residents.

If you have would like to speak to someone about volunteering at JSSA, please call: 301-816-2639 or send us an email inquiry.
