  Employment Services for Individuals with Special Needs and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

For: Young adults and adults.

Service description: JSSA offers a broad range of services designed to prepare, support, and sustain individuals with a broad range of special needs in meaningful and appropriate employment. Our professional staff of experienced vocational evaluators, supported employment specialists, job coaches and job developers, have, for more than 20 years, provided counseling and employment services to more than 100,000 clients throughout the Greater Washington DC community.

VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENT

·       Explore educational choices, career interests and personality preferences

·       Identify strengths, skills, and aptitudes

·       Address potential barriers to employment or education

 

WORK ADJUSTMENT TRAINING/GROUP PROGRAM

·    Prepare for employment in an inclusive work setting

·    Promote the meaning, value and demands of work

·    Assist in setting clear career goals

·    Identify and provide instruction on meeting employers expectations

·    Develop appropriate work place social skills

·    Assist with resume, cover letter and thank you letter writing

·    Advise on interviewing skills and how to present as a competitive job candidate

         

JOB DEVELOPMENT AND ON-GOING WORK PLACEMENT SUPPORT

·    Liaison between employers and clients

·    Assist with applying for jobs, arranging and preparing for interviews

·    Advocate and consult on accommodations including creating an ADA friendly workplace

·    Support for on-going job retention

·    Assist young adults transitioning into the work place

·    Guide on the purchase and use of assistive technology

·    Provide on the job training, job coaching and retention supports

·    Offer (optional) client group dinners for networking and socializing

 

Payment:  Information about JSSA's fees and charges is available upon request. JSSA accepts full fees for this service. Medicare and Medicaid are also accepted. JSSA can provide financial assistance on a sliding fee scale based on need. Some clients may also be eligible for DDA or DORS funding.
