JSSA is an approved Maryland provider (#CK0-3282) of trainings for child care providers to meet the annual requirements of the Maryland State Department of Education – Office of Child Care and the Maryland Child Care Credential. Below is our Fall 2010 Core of Knowledge training schedule:

Teachable Moments: Building Positive Relationships and Conflict Resolution in Early Childhood
Children’s emotions are central to their development of problem solving skills. When they learn to express their own emotions, and recognize the emotions of others, children are able to resolve problems together even in situations where there is high conflict.
Dates offered: Tuesday, September 21; 6-9:00 p.m.
Hours: 3 clock hours COK: Child Development/ Level I-II.
Effective Communication Skills Between Child Care Providers and Families: Help Parents Help You
This training will help participants identify ways to maintain ongoing communication with families, as well as address communication roadblocks. Participants will also learn how to express concerns to families in a positive way.
Dates offered: Tuesday, October 12; 6-9:00 p.m.
Hours: 3 clock hours COK: Community/Level I-II.
Positive Discipline
This training will define positive discipline and identify strategies for using positive discipline with preschool-aged children in a group setting.
Dates offered: Tuesday, November 9; 6-9:00 p.m.
Hours: 3 clock hours COK: Child Development/Level I-II.
Faculty: Wendy Baber, LCSW-C
Ms. Baber is a JSSA early childhood specialist with an academic and professional background in early childhood education. She has worked in the preschool classroom as both a teacher and director as well as with school-aged aftercare programs. Ms. Baber has extensive training in play therapy and specializes in working individually and in groups with young children, and continues to consult with child care programs.
