Connecting with Seniors in their Homes Connecting with Seniors in their Homes

JSSA offers individuals and families many opportunities to provide companionship to homebound seniors and to help older adults stay independent, healthy and connected to the community.  We encourage you to take advantage of these wonderful ways to ensure that those seniors who have difficulty with shopping and everyday tasks, cooking meals, or who simply can't get out to socialize can feel connected to their community.

Friendly Visitors
JSSA’s friendly visitors visit seniors too frail to go out by themselves. Together the senior and the visitor decide how they will spend their time – perhaps by paying bills, going out to lunch or a movie, or just enjoying conversation at home.

Holiday Basket Deliveries
JSSA’s volunteer teams deliver holiday packages of food and ritual items at Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Thanksgiving to people who would otherwise be unable to celebrate the holiday comfortably.

Meals on Wheels
JSSA’s Meals on Wheels volunteers pick up low-salt kosher meals and deliver them on weekdays to seniors in Montgomery County who are unable to cook for themselves. Our dedicated drivers enable JSSA to provide 23,000 nourishing meals each year to more than 400 seniors.

Shoppers
JSSA’s volunteer shoppers buy groceries for frail seniors. Some volunteers accompany their older friends to the store; others pick up seniors' grocery lists and return with full shopping bags. With volunteer support, more seniors can remain independent in their own homes.

Assisting Holocaust Survivors
Caring community volunteers offer friendly visiting and organize Café Europa holiday celebration programs for Holocaust survivors.
