Newcomer Resettlement Services Newcomer Resettlement Services

JSSA's Newcomer Resettlement program has been helping refugees from the former Soviet Union and Iran adapt to American life since the turn of the century. JSSA – as the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s agent – helps resettle eligible newcomers and assists recent arrivals by working closely with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) and with local Jewish agencies, schools, synagogue groups, and individual volunteers to help ease the transition for refugees into a new homeland, culture, and way of life.

Program costs are covered by grants and donations and include:

  • Case Management
  • Employment and Career Services
  • Acculturation Services
  • "On the Road to Citizenship" Services and Programs
  • Financial Assistance for Eligible Refugees
  • Volunteer Services (including medical and dental care, English and citizenship tutors, legal and accounting assistance, holiday basket deliveries, synagogue groups)
