JSSA is very proud of our more than a century-long history of outstanding community service. Throughout the years, JSSA has been continuously recognized for excellence in professional care and support services that exceed expectations and deliver an extra measure of compassion and commitment. The agency has been honored in a variety of ways for the high quality, diverse and innovative nature of our programs and services; for the specialized, expert and compassionate care our staff and volunteers; and for the many collaborative community partnerships that is a hallmark of JSSA’s mission.

Awarded to: JSSA's Premier Homecare and to JSSA's Senior Services 
Awarded for: Partnering with Homecrest along with other home care organizations (using the Cluster Care Model) to serve Homecrest's independent residents by providing onsite home care with 3 full time caregivers, a mental health counselor, and an RN.

Awarded to: JSSA CEO, Ken Kozloff 
Awarded for: Successful leadership of small, medium and large organizations in Maryland. This award honors Maryland business leaders and recognizes them for the success of their companies and their charitable work in the community.

Issuer of Award: The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington
Award Name: The Ted B. Farber Professional Excellence Award named in honor of the Jewish Federation’s executive vice president (1984-2001), Ted B. Farber.
Awarded to: Dawn Kaye, clinical supervisor, JSSA Fairfax office and Melissa Hochberg, resource specialist, Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV).
Awarded for:  Conceptualizing and leading the innovative Going Places! Social Club program for young adults with Asperger’s syndrome and related disorders. The award recognizes a local Jewish communal professional or inter-agency team who has made an outstanding contribution to Jewish community-building in Greater Washington.

Issuer of Award: International Association of Jewish Vocational Services (IAJVS)
Award Name: Benjamin Loewenstein Award
Awarded to: Judy Smith, career coach, JSSA Employment and Career Services
Awarded for: Outstanding professional work in Jewish vocational services. Judy was honored for creating and launching a number of innovative and exciting job search programs and helping hundreds of community members gain the skills needed to successfully find employment in today’s difficult job market.

Award Name:  F. Michael Taff Award
Awarded to:  Marta Bohorquez, Client Services/Disabilities Specialist, JSSA Employment and Career Services
Awarded for: Marta's contribution to improving the lives of people in Rockville with disabilities.  Marta was nominated by the Department of Rehabilitative Services, which sends clients with disabilities to JSSA for workplace preparation.

Award Name: National 2010 Mutual of America Community Partnership Merit Finalist Award
Awarded to: JSSA together with the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV)
Awarded for: JSSA’s Going Places! Social Club program for young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and related disorders which creates a safe, enjoyable environment for young adults with social and language processing challenges to make and sustain friendships and to learn the social skills necessary for functioning in the adult world. Mutual of America Foundation’s prestigious Community Partnership Award annually recognizes ten recipients selected from a national pool of 250 applicants.


2009

Issuer of Award: International design competition
Award Name: 2009 Hermes Creative Awards Contest
Awarded to: Beth Singer Designs, designer of our newly branded “Think JSSA” website. 
Awarded for: The rebranding of JSSA's website. The contest is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work in the communications and design industry.

Issuer of Award: Greater DC Cares
Award Name: Nonprofit Community Impact Award
Awarded to: JSSA
Awarded for: JSSA's increased efficiency and our redoubled efforts in mental health services, employment and career services and in expanding our financial assistance to meet rising needs of those impacted by the economic downturn.  
  

Date: 5/6/2009
Issuer of Award: Marriott Corporation.  The award is administered by the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, of County Executive Isiah Leggett’s office.
Award Name: Marriott Spirit to Serve Community Service Award.
Awarded to: JSSA’s 90 exemplary hospice and transitions volunteers who visit the chronically and terminally ill in Montgomery County JSSA Hospice and Transitions programs. Transitions is an all-volunteer run JSSA program that provides respite and visiting for the seriously ill and their families. 
Awarded for: Extraordinary individuals and groups for their outstanding service in strengthening the Montgomery County community. JSSA was one of only four organizations to receive the honor.
 

 
Ellen Lebedow receives the Award for Media Excellence on behalf of JSSA Hospice 
Date Awarded: 1/29/2009
Issuer of Award: Greater Washington Partnership for Palliative and End-of-Life Care Award
Award Name: CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Palliative Care Awards for Media Excellence
Awarded to: JSSA Hospice Team and Ms. Leslie Milk of Washingtonian magazine
Awarded for: The August Washingtonian magazine article, “Life Lessons” about the experiences of one of JSSA's hospice patients, Ken Novel and his family. 


2008

Award Name: Volunteer Award
Awarded to: Reynold Bauer, a long-time JSSA employment and career services administrative volunteer.

Awarded to: Beth Singer Designs in recognition for their work on JSSA's "Think JSSA!" marketing materials. 
Awarded for: Outstanding work in American identity graphics. This competition attracts thousands of entries from 35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
