ParnossahWorks ParnossahWorks™ is JSSA’s free, easy to use online job search board for employers in search of qualified employees and job seekers in the metro DC area.
Frequently Asked Questions about ParnossahWorks (PW) for Employers ParnossahWorks means “sustenance” in Hebrew. The site is a national brand used by many Jewish Federations throughout North America. Is there a fee for posting a job with PW? No, there is not. What is the value-added for my company to post a job with PW?
How do you screen job applicants? After we post a job, what happens next? A member of the professional staff of Employment and Career Services (ECS) reviews all uploaded resume documents. As indicated above, we will refer out any resume which is not market-ready and work with the job-seeker to be certain their revised document accurately represents their skills and competencies. If we find someone in the database who meets the skill requirements for your posted job, we will directly forward the resume to the company contact who posted the position to PW. How do we post a job to PW? Go to the homepage at http://metrodc.parnossahworks.org; click on Employers/Post Jobs tab as in the screenshot (in the lower left of the screen) and follow the step by step directions to login. If your company does not wish to register to post positions, JSSA will be glad to assist: just send the job post directly to mtillman@jssa.org.
This is up to the employer. If there is no deadline for receipt of resumes indicated in the posted description, we generally leave the job in PW for one month. There is no limit to the number of positions which an employer may post. Does JSSA sponsor other related career development resources and services for my company? Yes. Please review our broad range of family services provided by JSSA on our website at www.jssa.org. You can view the monthly events conducted by the ECS team at http://www.jssa.org/services/employmentcareer. We encourage you to share this information with your employees. Frequently Asked Questions about ParnossahWorks (PW) for Job Seekers Parnossah means “sustenance” in Hebrew. The site is a national brand used by many Jewish Federations throughout North America. I’m having trouble finding the site online. What should I do? Because there are similar looking web sites across the U.S. and in Toronto and Montreal and the home pages look exactly the same – be sure it says “metroDC” at the top of the page! This is the correct URL for the JSSA page: http://metrodc.parnossahworks.org How do I register online? From the homepage above, click on Job Seekers-Search/Find Jobs; then on Job Search Results (click on any job title); then Job Description and see “Click here to register” for the URL linking you to this page: You cannot apply directly to most job postings. If it is determined that your background and skills are a strong fit for the job, your resume is forwarded to the employer contact; the idea behind this process is that there is a better chance your resume will be reviewed because JSSA has an existing relationship with the employer. Where JSSA does not have an employer contact for a posted job, you will need to cut/paste the company URL from the job description into your web browser to apply through their website.
If it is determined that your resume needs editing and would benefit from a structured critique, then you will be asked to submit a brief questionnaire to help our team of volunteer professionals understand your career focus and job preferences. We have a team of trained retired professionals who volunteer to conduct resume critiques. Once referred, the critique is conducted within 3-5 business days. You will receive a document with suggestions for strengthening each functional category of the document. After receiving the resume critique and editing my resume, can I upload the new version of my resume in PW? Unfortunately, PW does not allow users to manage their documents. So after you have incorporated the critique comments into a revised resume document, you must send the new version to Marty Tillman at mtillman@jssa.org; he will delete the old version and upload the new one. After I receive my resume review, is there any way I can receive assistance in creating a new version of my document? Yes! We have begun a new service for this express need. For a fixed fee, one of our professional staff will work with you to re-write your resume. Please contact careerinfo@jssa.org for further details. Will I get a job as a result of uploading my resume on PW? PW is a part of JSSA’s overall strategy to provide a wide range of services to job seekers in our area. We do not promise a job will result from posting your resume with the job board. We do expect that when a client applies for a posted position, however, that the employer will, in fact, review the resume and consider the fit of our client to the job. And due to our ongoing relationship to an employer contact, we are in a strong position to follow up on behalf of the applicant. If I find a job posted on both the employer’s web site and on ParnossahWorks, what should I do? There is no harm in applying both through PW and via their web site [and reference that you also saw the job posted in PW!]. But when submitting your resume through PW, there is a greater likelihood that it will be looked at because of an existing relationship between JSSA and the employer. Can I apply for those listed jobs directly? Given the large number of applicants for most temp jobs, it is a buyer’s market and they do have the luxury of waiting until they see someone who most closely matches their explicit skill requirements [esp. ref: IT]. But if you do have most of the required experience – in particular, the number of years of experience stated, then do apply. Do employer contacts notify you when positions are filled? Posted jobs are monitored as to their expiration dates and when a job is filled, or the deadline has passed, it becomes “inactive” and clients can no longer apply for that job.
