Early Development, Psychopathology and Treatment of Infants and Young Children

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with the Diagnostic Classification: 0-3 Revised (DC: 0-3R) as a diagnostic tool that guides understanding and treatment of young children aged birth to five years and their families.
  • Understand the meaning of child-specific disruptive behaviors using the DC: 0-3R with special focus on how co-occurring diagnoses guide understanding and treatment.
  • Become familiar with new research in neurodevelopment that guides understanding and treatment of children with typical development and those with behavior disorders
  • Gain a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of six subtypes of feeding disorders
  • Understand and treat young children with problems in self-regulation, feeding and sleep. The faculty will provide select reading materials prior to each seminar and will use a didactic case study and discussion format.

Selection of students:
This training program is designed for social workers, counselors and psychiatric nurses. Applicants are asked to submit a resume. A phone interview is also required.

CEU Credits:
This program is eligible for 18 CEUs.

Family Treatment Program

This program will include sessions covering new ideas in systems family therapy; psychoeducational family therapy and cognitivebehavioral family therapy with children, adolescents, seniors and their families.

Selection of Students
This training program is designed for social workers, counselors and psychiatric nurses. Applicants are asked to submit a resume. A phone interview is also required.

Participants will learn:

  • Which family therapy concepts and techniques can serve as powerful tools for assessing and working with the family context when it plays a major role in creating or maintaining serious symptoms in family members.
  • The key elements of family systems, family psychoeducational and cognitive-behavioral family therapy, and how to integrate techniques from these different family models into an ongoing clinical practice.
  • Faculty provides select reading materials prior to each seminar, and will use a didactic case study and discussion format.

Training Institute Policies

Tuition payment for each course is due either the week before the commencement of the course or at the first class. In the event that an enrolled student requests a withdrawal from the course before the first session of the program, tuition will be refunded less a $50 processing fee.If a student enters training and withdraws or discontinues attendance in the training prior to completion of the scheduled program, the Training Institute shall refund the student a prorated amount of the remaining tuition less 10%. If seventy-five percent (75%) of the scheduled program has already been completed no refund will be made. In order to receive CEU credits and to complete the course, attendance at 80% of the sessions is required. JSSA reserves the right to cancel any course, seminar or workshop that does not reach minimum enrollment. In such cases, registrants will be notified, and all fees submitted will be refunded in full.
