About Us
For more than 115 years, JSSA (Jewish Social Service Agency) has exemplified Jewish values by reaching out and helping everyone in the Washington metropolitan area who needs us – regardless of their religious background, race or ability to pay.
Our wide range of counseling, educational and career services, in-home support, hospice and nursing care and social services are provided by our highly skilled and caring staff of mental health and nursing professionals. JSSA provides services and support for more than 25,000 individuals a year, from the very young to the very old.

Here's how JSSA helped those in our community last year:
Children and Teens
- Mental health evaluation and treatment for 1,700 children and teens, and guidance for more than 3,000 parents
- Educational and neuropsychological testing and follow-up services to 174 individuals and their families
- Social skills therapy groups for more than 241 children and teens
- Adoption services for 153 families
Adults
- Therapy for 1,250 adults and couples
- Career counseling and employment services for 300 individuals
- Chaplaincy services to 9,000 individuals in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, assisted living facilities, and prisons
- Synagogue liaison consultations, workshops, and information and referral services for more than 4,300 people
- Educational scholarships and interest-free loans for 35 students
Seniors
- Services for more than 2,000 seniors
- Hospice care for 348 patients and their families, Transitions support for 180 patients and their families, and bereavement support for 70 families
- 22,310 Kosher Meals on Wheels delivered to frail elders
- 6,074 volunteer “friendly visits” to elders who live alone; 1,074 holiday and cheer baskets delivered
- Case management and in-home support services for 210 Holocaust survivors
- 95,000 hours of service to more than 379 individuals through Premier Homecare
Individuals with special needs
- Services to more than 430 individuals with special needs and their families
- Evaluation, treatment and case management for more than 40 individuals with hearing loss
Many JSSA services are covered by insurance and managed-care plans. We also accept Medicare and Medicaid.
