Sam's Story Sam's Story

"When Sam turned 14, he became withdrawn and moody and abandoned his schoolwork. His grades dropped, he argued frequently with his parents and brother. His pediatrician recommended JSSA. Our evaluation revealed that Sam had a previously undetected learning disability--one reason school had always been so frustrating and friendships difficult. As his clinical social worker, I helped Sam, his parents and the school to develop and implement a program to help Sam deal with his learning disability. Counseling helped Sam sort out his feelings, and through a therapy group he connected with other teens facing similar issues. We also provided parent support and family counseling. Adolescence can be a challenging time. JSSA helped Sam and his family through a crisis and onto a positive path."
